Two Steps Forward, Two Steps Back

August 7, 2021

It's starting to look like we're slowly edging toward "normalcy," although recent developments (re: the Delta variant) have cast a cloud on that. Still, people are getting vaccinated, shops, stores and restaurants are inching toward full opening, and bowling centers - the ones that have managed to stay in business - are opening.

For those wondering if I'm going to continue coaching, the short answer is yes, but...

As many of you know, I live three hours (at least) from both Diablo Valley Bowl and Presidio Bowling Center. The first half of my drive to the Bay Area is on a two-lane mountain road that twists and turns and sees occasional delays for various reasons. Example: A few years ago I found that a very large tree had fallen, blocking both lanes. Luckily, some other driver had a winch on his truck and pulled the thing out of the way.

To allow for slowdowns, I leave home at 6:15 in the morning to get to DVB by 10:00, when it opens. To get to PBC by its 9:00 opening, I leave home at 5:15.

I coach because I love to coach. Financially, I typically break even every year. Adding to the mix, I've decided to go back to school. I didn't complete my final year of college when I was younger, so now I'm going to finish the job.

So where does that leave things? I will be coaching, but mostly through group clinics and half-day group "workshops." I'll let everyone know when I'll be starting. For those of you who read my instructional articles in, I'm taking a break from those, too.

This is inconvenient, I know, and I apologize to everyone. I'm happy to help find a coach in your area; just let me know where that is. I'm also looking into holding some type of refresher lessons via Zoom. In the meantime, if you have any bowling questions or problems, let me know and I'll try to help.

Again, I apologize to all.

It is

SO cool when the

fall down!
